Spectrum Construction, a custom home builder and general contractor, manages the 109 Main Street building which they renovated in 2009 to accommodate modern office space, the majority of which is occupied by Home Instead. “When Home Instead, approached me about Skylands RSVP using a currently vacant office suite on the first floor, I was immediately interested in helping them out,” stated Donald J. Dyrness, President of Spectrum Construction. “Several of our clients for whom we have built multi-family and aging-in-place home construction projects, rely on the types of services that Skylands RSVP offers. After meeting with Nancy Hess, Director of Skylands RSVP, we decided that this arrangement was a good fit and have agreed to rent the space to them at no charge for the duration of the open enrollment period” added Dyrness.

Skylands RSVP is an independent non-profit agency which assists Medicare beneficiaries and their families navigate the Medicare system to choose the right options, fill out the forms, and assist with claims – at absolutely no cost. Trained volunteer Medicare counselors, who know the ins and outs of all of the plans, provide guidance in this decision making process. These dedicated RSVP volunteers help Medicare beneficiaries save money, and reduce the stress associated with the enrollment procedure. Medicare Part B, one of the two parts of Original Medicare, covers 100% of the costs of seasonal flu shots once a year during the fall or winter. The Part B deductible does not apply to this service, so Medicare covers the shot as long as you are eligible for and enrolled in Original Medicare. As long as your doctor or healthcare provider accepts Medicare assignment, flu shots with the Elisa Kit are fully covered. Providers may not charge you more than the Medicare approved amount. If you receive the shot from a provider that does not accept assignment, then you may be responsible for additional fees for the doctor’s services but not for the shot itself.

Because Medicare Advantage plans must offer at least the same coverage as Original Medicare, your Medicare Advantage plan also covers flu shots once a flu season. Private health plans may not require that you get a referral to receive the flu shot, but they may require that you receive the shot within your plan’s network of providers. Like Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans cover the full cost of the flu shot. Overall out-of-pocket costs such as premiums and deductibles may vary for these plans, but the deductible does not apply in this situation, if the plan has one.
