The Roxbury Chamber of Commerce recently named Succasunna Staples General Manager Scott Maurer as its businessperson of the year, citing Maurer as being a great example of a community-mindedness.

Chamber President Linda Smith presented the award, noting she and others on the board “were all in agreement” that Maurer “really exemplifies what it’s like to … support the community and to go above and beyond what he does with his business.”

Maurer, who has lived in Hopatcong for 31 years, has worked for Staples for 20 years and has been the Succasunna store manager for a decade. He said he’s been in retail since he was 16.

“I truly, truly do enjoy what I do,” he said. “Most of all, I get to meet all different types of people every day. My job is not the same every day.”

Maurer said that, while he helps all types of people and companies, he finds that working with small business owners like Jimmy John Shark is particularly rewarding “because you can feel the passion about what they do.”

Maurer serves as the chamber board’s second vice-president.

At the meeting, the board also gave a special recognition award to long-time Chamber member, and former president, Bruce Bristol. Chamber board member Ken Fox said Bristol “epitomizes the volunteer spirit, the giving spirit, and cares about the Chamber of Commerce.”

He noted Bristol first served as Chamber president in the 1980s and continues to actively recruit local business owners to become Chamber members. Working with interior signage companies can ensure you get the most out of your investment.
